Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC): The Pinnacle of the Wine World
Having been in the red wine buyback business for so many years, DRC has always been at the very top. Burgundy's finest land, lowest yields, and most meticulous cultivation methods – the annual production of a bottle of Romanée-Conti is only about six thousand bottles. Even if you want to buy it, you might not be able to, let alone older vintages.
Precisely because of its rarity, the buyback price of the DRC series has always been stable, even increasing year by year. Whether you have the flagship Romanée-Conti or the entry-level Échézeaux, T.B. Red Wine is interested in discussing it.
Why Is DRC Worth the Price? – From Terroir to Philosophy
Many people find DRC outrageously expensive, but there are solid reasons behind it. First, the plots: the Romanée-Conti vineyard is only 1.81 hectares, and La Tâche is only 6.06 hectares, an area not much larger than many people's home gardens. In Burgundy, terroir is not a marketing term but a belief – vineyards on opposite sides of the same village road can produce entirely different wines.
DRC began implementing comprehensive organic farming in 1985 and further transitioned to Biodynamics in 1997, using their own horses to plow and managing the vineyard according to lunar cycles. These practices directly impact yields – DRC's yield per acre is less than half that of neighboring wineries, but the concentrated flavor and complexity are also unrivaled.
Furthermore, DRC does not have an en primeur system like Bordeaux châteaux, so buyers can generally only acquire wines through designated distributors or the secondary market. This supply-and-demand structure has meant that DRC has almost exclusively seen price increases in the auction market over the past twenty years.
DRC Wines We Buy Back
Romanée-Conti – The flagship of DRC, a monopole vineyard, with only a few thousand bottles produced globally each year. It has the highest collection value.
La Tâche – Another monopole vineyard, with slightly higher production than Romanée-Conti, but equally excellent quality. Its value for money is favored by collectors.
Richebourg – Full-bodied and rich, it is the most exuberant style in the DRC series.
Romanée-Saint-Vivant – Elegant and refined, with prominent floral notes. Its market recognition has risen rapidly in recent years.
Échézeaux / Grands Échézeaux – The entry-level option in the DRC series, but "entry-level" is only relative to DRC itself; in the context of Burgundy as a whole, it is already top-tier.
Montrachet – DRC's only white wine, with an annual production of about three thousand bottles. It is considered one of the most expensive white wines in the world.

DRC Vintage Quick Check: Which Vintages Are Most Valuable?
Not all DRC vintages are equally sought after. The following dimensions can help you determine the market position of the bottle you hold:
Legendary Vintages (Auction Market Ceiling): 1945, 1959, 1978, 1990, 2005 – Romanée-Conti from these vintages often fetches over a million Hong Kong dollars at auction, and even with money, you might not be able to buy them.
Investment-Grade Vintages (Stable Appreciation): 1999, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2019 – Universally recognized for their excellent quality, with relatively reasonable circulation. These are the vintages institutional collectors most favor.
Ready-to-Drink Good Vintages (Drinking Window Open): 2002, 2007, 2012 – Good quality but nearing their peak maturity, with relatively affordable prices. Buyers are willing to acquire them at reasonable prices for immediate consumption.
Of course, there are basically no "worthless" DRC vintages. Even for relatively ordinary vintages, as long as they are in good condition and their origin is clear, we will buy them.
