The most expensive dry white wine in the world: Montrachet Grand Cru
In April 2016, most of Burgundy, France, suffered severe frosts, leading to a reduction in grape yields during harvest. Six top Burgundy wineries, including Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), Domaine Leflaive, and Domaine des Comtes Lafon, decided to jointly produce the 2016 Montrachet Grand Cru dry white wine. Montrachet Grand Cru is known as the most outstanding Grand Cru for Chardonnay white wines in Burgundy, arguably the most expensive dry white wine region in the world. This joint winemaking effort was unprecedented and became explosive news in the wine industry.

What is Montrachet Grand Cru?
In the Côte de Beaune, located in southern Burgundy, there are four vineyards designated as Grand Crus between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Two of these are entirely within Puligny-Montrachet, and the other two straddle both villages. These are Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and Chevalier-Montrachet. Among these four Grand Crus, Montrachet has the smallest yield and the highest quality, perfectly embodying the Burgundian pursuit of terroir.
The Montrachet vineyard spans 7.9 hectares and is owned by 18 different producers. The Chardonnay dry white wine produced here is world-renowned, expensive, and extremely limited in production. For example, in 2008, only 34,900 liters were produced, which is less than 47,000 bottles.

Why is it called the most expensive dry white wine region in the world?
Montrachet Grand Cru dry white wines are known as the "King of White Burgundy," and their prices clearly reflect this. In the latest WS ranking of the world's 50 most expensive wines, Domaine Leflaive Montrachet Grand Cru ranks 4th, with an international average price (excluding tax) of up to 38,097 RMB per bottle. The top 3 are either dry reds or sweet whites, making this wine the most expensive dry white in the world. Montrachet truly lives up to its reputation as the global leader in expensive dry white wine regions. Additionally, DRC's Montrachet Grand Cru dry white (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet Grand Cru) is also astonishingly expensive, with an international average price (excluding tax) of up to 31,512 RMB per bottle, making it another sought-after and rare gem.

Montrachet Grand Cru dry white wines offer an unparalleled tasting experience, with their delicate layers, elegant character, captivating aromas, rich and silky texture, and full-bodied richness, leaving an unforgettable impression. However, despite Montrachet's small size, as it straddles two villages, the style of wines produced by different winemakers varies. Wines produced by wineries located in Chassagne-Montrachet are usually referred to as "Le Montrachet" and tend to have a richer style. Wines produced by wineries located in Puligny-Montrachet are usually referred to as "Montrachet" and tend to have a more elegant style.
