Château Lafite and Château Haut-Brion: a ten-bottle, multi-vintage list

This anonymous list covers two estates and ten vintage positions: one bottle each of Château Lafite Rothschild 1978, 2012, 2013 and 2014; and one bottle each of Château Haut-Brion 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2001 and 2002. The list confirms only the wine names, vintages and quantities; bottle size, packaging and actual condition still need to be checked bottle by bottle against the full set of photographs.

First divide the ten bottles into two groups

Group Bottle reference Vintages
Lafite LF-78, LF-12, LF-13, LF-14 1978; 2012–2014
Haut-Brion HB-91 to HB-94 1991–1994
Haut-Brion HB-01, HB-02 2001, 2002

Bordeaux's official 1855 Classification page lists both estates' classifications and notes that Haut-Brion is the exception in Graves on that red-wine list. This is estate background, not evidence that all ten bottles share the same condition; photographs, supporting material and market records for Lafite and Haut-Brion must not be mixed.

The group photograph is only for counting bottles

Photograph each bottle's front label, back label, fill level, full capsule and base separately. The 1978 Lafite needs its own close-ups and must not be described from the condition of the three newer bottles. Each of the four consecutive 1990s Haut-Brion vintages also needs a bottle-specific record of label scuffs, damp marks, capsule dents, dried seepage and fill level. Record anything that cannot be seen clearly as unconfirmed; do not fill gaps with words such as “complete” or “perfect”.

Finish with a four-way reconciliation

The quantity on the list, the physical bottle count, the bottle references in the photographs and the years on the documents must all agree. If a wooden case exists, photograph the wine name, vintage, bottle size and stated bottle count on the case, together with the internal dividers and any damage, before deciding whether the case and bottles match; record a later replacement case as such. In the provenance field, include only dates and stages supported by documents, without adding an address, personal identity or storage story. Keep market evidence separate by estate and vintage so that these ten bottles become ten traceable records rather than one generic group of famous wines.
