Seller background and reason for sale
- Seller: Mr Lam, an executive at a company in Central Hong Kong
- Reason for sale: These two rare bottles were gifts of thanks from an important business partner several years ago. Because Mr Lam has a mild alcohol allergy and normally does not drink at all, the wines had remained properly stored in a professional temperature-controlled cabinet from the time he received them. While organising his collection recently, he decided that leaving such outstanding wines idle in the dark would be a waste. Instead, he chose to realise their value through a professional fine-wine acquisition firm so that they could pass to a collector who would genuinely appreciate them.
The acquisition story: where professionalism met trust
Last Tuesday afternoon, we received a WhatsApp message from Mr Lam. He said that he had two bottles from DRC (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) that he wanted us to value and acquire. As a professional fine-wine acquisition platform in Hong Kong, we understand DRC's leading position in the wine world and immediately arranged for a senior assessor to assist him.
Mr Lam then sent several clear photographs of the bottles. From the group photograph, we immediately identified their exceptional identities: one was a Romanée-Conti with the distinctive “MONOPOLE 2018” sticker; the other was a 2019 Grands Échézeaux. Both retained their intact original protective film and appeared in excellent condition.

To confirm the details, we reviewed the individual close-up photographs supplied by Mr Lam. On the 2018 Romanée-Conti, the estate signature, bottle number “01334” and seal were visible. The separate close-up of the 2019 Grands Échézeaux showed bottle number “04207”, its visible fill level and wine colour.

Based on the preliminary photographic assessment, we gave Mr Lam an initial quotation. The next day, our representative visited his office in Central for an on-site handover. A second physical check recorded the visible anti-counterfeit markings, capsule, fill level and externally visible cork position; those observations did not by themselves prove authenticity or internal cork condition. In this recorded case, settlement was completed immediately by bank transfer.
After the transaction, Mr Lam smiled and said: “The process with Dibao Wine was simple and transparent, and the price was fair. These two bottles have found a good home.”

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Q1: How does Dibao Wine assess its wine-acquisition prices?
A: Our quotations consider available international market references, brand, vintage, scarcity, label integrity, fill level and preservation. The final offer is explained after inspection and is not guaranteed by any one factor.
Q2: Can you still acquire my wine if it does not have an original wooden case (OWC)?
A: An original wooden case or original packaging can support buyer confidence, but an individual bottle can also be assessed. The exact value depends on the condition and provenance of that bottle.
Q3: How long does the transaction take, and how do you pay?
A: After an initial quotation is discussed online, a representative may be arranged to inspect the wine. In the recorded case, payment was made immediately by bank transfer; for a new enquiry, cash, FPS or bank-transfer timing is agreed after inspection.
