As a renowned Pomerol estate, Petrus is known for blue-clay parcels and a wine made almost entirely from Merlot. It has a rich, opulent style and silky texture; although Pomerol was not included in the 1855 classification, Petrus has substantial international collector demand.
Details considered in a Petrus valuation
- Bottle format and quantity: Large formats and complete cases are often more sought after and may be valued more favourably.
- Provenance: Purchase invoices, the original wooden case, and cellar or merchant records strengthen the provenance record.
- Authenticity features: Clear images of the producer's security label and identifying number can assist verification.
- Bottle condition: Fill level, any sunken cork, and the integrity of the capsule and label are especially important for older vintages.
1993 Petrus valuation considerations
Conditions on Bordeaux's Right Bank were less favourable in 1993, and the vintage is generally assessed in measured terms. A valuation of Petrus from this year places greater weight on bottle condition and provenance.
Please note that bottle condition and provenance can influence the price more than the vintage alone. Storage conditions, the number of cellar moves, invoices and the original case are all relevant to the assessment.
Before requesting a valuation, prepare the vintage, quantity and bottle photographs. We will provide an indicative assessment based on the physical bottle and current market demand.
